Gregorian flash
Erik of the rants and recipes will begin his discussions of music and art this week with a couple examples of plainchant. I found an animated version of one of the pieces, "Victimae Pascali Laudes:"
Victimae paschali laudes
This, and some other Flash files can be found here.
Here's a quick midi file of the other chant Erik mentioned. I don't like synthesized voices, so I used a fake flute instead.
Kyrie from Mass XI ("Orbis Factor") (LU 46)
(Erik: is this too fast? Should I insert short rests between the words?)
[June 12]
Here's a better (I hope) version of the Kyrie from Mass XI, slower and with pauses between the words and phrases:
Kyrie from Mass XI
Trivial note: the transcription I worked from was done by Susan Hellauer, better-known as one of the Anonymous 4.

Don,
First, thank you for posting these. I will link to them right away (the analysis will be posted late tonight). I do think the Kyrie is a little fast, and could have some breaths between words, and especially between phrases, but it gives the listener a good idea of the sound. I think once folks have the melodic contour, they can imagine the sound of the voices singing and can slow it down in their heads.
