Were there any criteria beyond sheer whimsy in the selection of nominees?

I would not be surprised if our old nemesis Charles Solomon were linked into it somehow.

If you're going to have an annual awards program, you should limit nominations to anime and VA performances that came out in the last year... as it is, it's no better than some random blog putting up a "Which anime is your favorite?" poll. Not to mention that having "industry companies and professionals" decide the ballot makeup is about as unbiased as having movie studio bigwigs decide Oscar nominations.
